However you found me, I’m glad you’re here.
My name is Mandie, and I am the voice behind Conscious Moxie. What is “conscious” beauty, you ask? Well, it’s kind of hard to define because there is no true definition. Despite what clever marketing may have led you to believe, the beauty industry doesn’t regulate terms like “conscious,” “clean,” “green,” or “natural.”
So what exactly does “conscious” mean to me?
Conscious means being aware of what’s in my products and how they were made. I want:
- ingredients that are easy to understand and non-irritating to most skin types
- brands that care about inclusivity
- products that are consciously, sustainably, and ethically sourced
Not too complicated, right? Wrong. Sadly, the majority of beauty brands out there don’t follow these guidelines. In fact, when it comes to ingredients, the FDA regulates them, but only a minuscule number when you look at the US compared to Canada or the EU. In fact, beauty products do not require approval from the FDA before hitting shelves!
Hear me out. I am absolutely against fear-mongering.
The transition to conscious beauty is a personal journey for each individual. You may decide you want to slowly replace your skincare and makeup arsenal, or you may decide you want to overhaul it. Either way, I’m here for you with Conscious Moxie!
Okay, Mandie. That’s great and all. But why start a conscious beauty blog?
Great question. When I was starting the process of looking for more conscious products, I found it incredibly helpful to hear what others thought about specific products before I went and spent my hard-earned money on them! So my mission is to do the same for you. I want you to be equipped to make well-informed decisions about the products you put on your skin.
When I started out, there were very few clean beauty brands out there. However, in the past few years, the industry has blown up! In 2017, it was nearly impossible to find a “clean” foundation that actually performed, and now, there are dozens I could recommend to you. All that to say, you can expect to see honest product reviews (good, bad, and ugly), general beauty tips, and a little bit of humor here at Conscious Moxie.
Thank you for being here.
I am so excited to use this clean beauty blog to divulge all of the research and testing I’ve conducted in the last few years (and now, beyond). Cheers!
